Drawing on 25 years of client-side and agency experience, Janice helps companies use public relations to deliver strategic business results.
Her expertise includes reputation management, digital and stakeholder communication, traditional and social media relations, brand publicity, internal communication and crisis management. She has led internal and external communication for special situations and issues ranging from acquisitions, corporate restructurings and media investigations to activist boycotts, plant closures, product recalls, government and regulatory inquiries, and court proceedings.
A founding partner of SIGNAL, Janice previously led Strategic Ingenuity, a boutique public relations firm that provided communications services for a range of clients including: condo developer Tridel, Ring of Fire pioneer Noront Resources, independent wealth management firm Echelon Wealth Partners, interactive gaming company TimePlay, Americas Silver Corporation and Mining4Life (a networking event she helped create that is attended by C-suite level mining executives and has helped the industry raise more than $17 million for global child health initiatives).
Prior to that, Janice was Vice President Corporate Affairs at Tarion Warranty Corporation which regulates the home building industry. She was brought in at the height of the new home construction boom to help the company address long-standing reputational issues amid a wave of high-profile negative publicity. She led a re-branding that increased public awareness by 20% within 12 months and improved the company’s image. In addition to reputation management, her responsibilities at Tarion included corporate communication, research, advertising, government relations and providing communications support to the Board of Directors.
Previously, Janice was hired by her client, Procter & Gamble (P&G), to lead their Canadian Public Affairs function which she managed from 1995 to 2001. In that role, she reported to the President and was responsible for strategic planning, reputation management, corporate and employee communication (3,300 employees at head office, regional offices and plants), consumer relations (call centre with 40 staff), corporate philanthropy, government relations and marketing communication (50+ brands including Tide, Swiffer, Febreze, Olay and many others).
Janice began her career in 1991 at global public relations firm Hill & Knowlton where her clients included P&G, American Express, Microsoft, Nintendo, Air Miles, Fairmont Hotels, A&P, and Cineplex Odeon. She was promoted quickly through various roles and at 28 she became Vice President, Consumer Marketing and the youngest member of the Management Team.
